Martin Coussement

Young Woodworker

Walloon Brabant

Maker Next Door is pleased to introduce Martin Coussement, a promising and talented woodworker !

MND :  Can you introduce yourself in a few words ?

MC : My name is Martin Coussement, I am 18 years old and I have been passionate about handicrafts since I was a child. I particularly love woodworking, when I was 12-13 years old I was a forest work fanatic. Felling and pruning trees was my whole life. At 14 years old, I was able to use a chainsaw for the first time and since then I haven’t let go of it.

MND : Where do you find your inspiration ?

MC : I studied carpentry at the GITO in Overijse.
Very disappointed by the little we learned there, I started looking for all kinds of manufacturing techniques on YouTube. It is from this platform that much of my knowledge comes from (also Instagram & Facebook).

MND : What made you want to start creating ?

MC : I started seriously from the end of 2015, the pleasure of doing unique things is what made me want to enter the world of creation! The raw materials I use come from the forests I manage or from local retailers.

MND : Do you have a hobby on the side ?

MC : To this day I still practice felling trees for firewood or for my creative projects. Outside my workshop, I also have a penchant for extreme sports, especially downhill cycling.
